‘PIT STOP’ is a term that refers to a quick stop made during an automobile race, usually in Formula 1, NASCAR, and other motorsports competitions. During a pit stop, vehicles are driven into the team pit box where various maintenance services and adjustments are performed to improve the car's performance and/or replace damaged parts. Typical pit stop activities include tyre changes, refuelling, aerodynamic adjustments, mechanical adjustments, cleaning and maintenance.
Pit stops are crucial in motor racing as the time spent in the pits can significantly influence the outcome of the race. Pit stop teams are highly specialised and work quickly to perform all necessary operations in the shortest possible time, often in less than ten seconds. A well-executed pit stop can make the difference between victory and defeat in a car race.
