'Necro-polis' re-imagines the desecration of the Basilica of St Denis as a hallucinatory cycle of decay and transformation. During the French Revolution, revolutionaries shattered royal tombs, scattering bones and defiling sacred remains. However, in this reimagining, something far stranger emerges from the chaos. The Basilica becomes overtaken by fungi—the alchemists of decay—feeding on the remnants of kings and sprouting hallucinogenic mushrooms.
These mushrooms are not merely symbols of decomposition; they are portals to altered states of consciousness. Some theories suggest that early Christianity was shaped by psychedelic experiences, with sacred fungi unlocking divine visions. In Necro-polis, the revolutionaries unknowingly consume the essence of the deceased monarchs, turning their revelries into accidental rites of communion. The Basilica transforms into a dreamlike temple where history folds in on itself, and intoxication blurs the lines between past and present. Here, time collapses, and the visions open up a new portal—one where history, myth, and hallucination are one, in a single, wyrd, dream.
